Executive Director

Dawn became the Director for After-The-Bell in August 2018, after serving as Program Director and Activities Manager since August 2015. She first joined After-The-Bell as a volunteer in September 2014, as both of her sons were in Kennett Middle School at that time. She works closely with our volunteers and the staff at KMS to provide the appropriate, fun and new activities to best meet the needs of the students through the After-The-Bell program. Dawn earned her BS in Finance and Economics from Frostburg State University and attended Johns Hopkins University for her Masters in Finance. Dawn and her family have lived in Kennett Square since 2001. She and her husband are raising two teenage sons in the KCSD.  Dawn loves our schools and making a difference in our community!

Kathleen Meehan Do

Kathleen Meehan Do

Grant/Document Writer

After serving for four years as Executive Director of After-The-Bell, Kathy stepped into the position of Grant/Document Writer when she moved to Southern Delaware with her husband in the summer of 2018. Kathy assists in the preparation of all grant applications, reports, and related materials. She also leads the team that prepares the Annual Report and provides other written documents at the request of the Executive Director.

Sue Pestana

Activities Manager

Sue Pestana has been with After the Bell as a volunteer since moving to Kennett Square from the San Antonio area in 2017. She joined the staff as Program Manager in December of 2019. Sue studied mass Communications at Radford University and went on to study Spanish at Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador. She has years of experience working with children as a Montessori teacher and Cub Scout den leader as well as various volunteer positions with her sons' schools. Sue has been married 20 years and has two sons, ages 14 and 10. Her husband's career has taken them all over the United States and abroad, but they are happy to now call Kennett Square home. She sees After the Bell is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the kids and families of her new community and she is excited and proud to be part of such a dynamic organization.

Bonnie Smith

Bonnie Smith

Technical Advisor

Bonnie joined After-The-Bell in 2014 as the Technical Advisor. Bonnie is a Air Force Veteran having served in the technical department for over 6 years and has been in IT since 1968. She also teaches Genealogy at The Life Long Learning Center in Wilmington and enjoys history and science.

Braulio Cervantes

Braulio Cervantes

Activities Manager

Braulio was born and raised in Chester County. He graduated from Octorara High School in 2011 and obtained an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Delaware County Community College. Braulio began working towards his Bachelor’s in Biology at West Chester University and plans on completing it at Lincoln University. He is currently studying pre-med at Lincoln University. Braulio has a great deal of experience working with children. He served as a summer camp teacher at Tick Tock Early Learning Center from 2009-2013, and currently teaches catechism at St. Rocco Parish in Avondale, Pa. Braulio enjoys working with nonprofits that enrich the lives of others.

Lorena Bonnie

Activities Manager

Lorena was born and raised in Mexico, moved to PA in 2003 and graduated from Avon Grove High School. Lorena attended California University of PA where she graduated in 2011. Before joining After-The-Bell, Lorena worked as a Program Coordinator for Migrant Education at the CCIU for about six years. After working at the CCIU, she joined The Garage Youth Center as the Graduate Coordinator working on getting high school students ready for post-secondary life. Outside of helping her community and working with students in after-school programs, Lorena enjoys reading and spending time with her husband, Antonio, and two beautiful, young daughters.

Community Volunteers


In addition to the staff, more than 100 program, committee, and board-level volunteers ensure that After-The-Bell runs smoothly each year. Program volunteers serve as activity facilitators, activity assistants, snack helpers, and desk helpers. All program volunteers must undergo background checks including criminal and child abuse clearances. All new volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation and training which include program and organizational overviews, mandated reporting, as well as safety and emergency procedures.
